The Insurance and Private Pension Regulation and Supervision Agency of Türkiye published an update reporting that judicial authorities detained 23 people and issued an arrest warrant for another following criminal complaints arising from its investigation of AcnTurk Sigorta AŞ. The 24 people include company shareholders, board members and its accountant. The agency previously revoked all of the insurer’s authorizations because of mismanagement, breaches of insurance and financial legislation, and financial weakness. Its inspection identified an allegedly misleading accountant’s report in the company’s 2022 license application and suspected offenses including aggravated insurance embezzlement, asset depletion, document forgery, violations of insurance law and the provision of false information or documents to inspectors. Findings concerning unauthorized capital markets activity, a misleading real estate valuation report and suspicious financial transactions were also referred to the Capital Markets Board and the Financial Crimes Investigation Board, while the accountant was reported to the relevant professional bodies.
