The Middle East and North Africa Financial Action Task Force held a high-level meeting with Palestinian authorities to review progress in strengthening the national anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing (AML/CFT) framework and discuss priorities for the next phase. These priorities center on implementing the national AML/CFT strategy, which is based on updated national and sectoral risk assessments, and preparing for Palestine’s mutual evaluation. Palestinian authorities reported progress in developing legislation, improving interagency coordination, expanding risk-based supervision and private-sector practices, and building AML/CFT capacity. The meeting also examined how current economic conditions are affecting the banking sector, particularly the continuity of correspondent banking relationships and secure official financial channels. Both sides agreed to continue cooperation and coordination in support of the Palestinian financial system and implementation of Financial Action Task Force standards.
