The Central Bank of the UAE and the Bank of South Sudan signed a memorandum of understanding establishing a cooperation framework spanning security printing, the development of solutions for switching and processing payment card transactions in South Sudan, and the exchange of knowledge, experience and technical training. Under the MoU, the Central Bank of the UAE will provide banknote security printing solutions for South Sudan through its subsidiary Oumolat, while its subsidiary Al Etihad Payments will support the Bank of South Sudan in developing a payment card system in two phases. The first phase covers comprehensive solutions for switching and processing payment card transactions performed in South Sudan, with an emphasis on efficiency, security and data confidentiality aligned with international standards, and the second phase focuses on developing local processing infrastructure and advanced solutions. Information sharing and technical support are also included, alongside training for Bank of South Sudan employees in banking supervision and monetary operations through programmes delivered by the Emirates Institute of Finance.
