The South African Reserve Bank published its international reserves and foreign currency liquidity data for end-July 2026, reporting official reserve assets of USD 73.45 billion. Foreign currency reserves accounted for USD 49.92 billion, while the currency composition data showed USD 68.24 billion in currencies within the special drawing rights basket, including gold, and USD 5.21 billion in other currencies. Predetermined short-term foreign currency drains included central government principal outflows of USD 302 million and interest outflows of USD 1.91 billion within one year. Contingent short-term drains totaled USD 1.82 billion, comprising USD 1.49 billion of principal and USD 332 million of interest.
