National Bank of the Kyrgyz Republic Chair Almaz Baketaev held a bilateral meeting in Washington on 14 April 2026 with International Monetary Fund (IMF) officials Jihad Azour and Dmitry Gershenson to discuss measures to support macroeconomic stability. The talks covered current economic trends in the Kyrgyz Republic and the results of the recent IMF mission under the Article IV consultations, with Baketaev reaffirming the central bank’s focus on price stability and strengthening the resilience of the financial sector. The meeting also addressed options to broaden cooperation with the IMF, including expanded participation by the Kyrgyz Republic in CCAMTAC, the IMF’s capacity development centre for the Caucasus, Central Asia and Mongolia. Both sides highlighted deeper technical engagement through programmes aimed at strengthening the institutional capacity of the republic’s public authorities.
