The Bank of Finland has published payment statistics showing that Finnish cards were used for 680 million payments worth EUR 20.6 billion in the second quarter of 2026. Payment volumes rose 4% and values increased 6% from the same period in 2025, driven by continued growth in remote and contactless transactions. Remote card payments increased 13% by number to 141 million and 14% by value to EUR 6 billion, accounting for more than one-fifth of transactions and 27% of total card payment value. Contactless payments rose 13% by value to EUR 9.7 billion, or 47% of the total, while payments using a chip or magnetic stripe fell 12% to EUR 5.3 billion.
