The Tanzania Insurance Regulatory Authority met Mataka Mufwa, Tanganyika province’s minister for Energy and Mines in the Democratic Republic of Congo, during Lake Tanganyika Expo 2026 in Kigoma. Discussions focused on closer cooperation between Tanzania and the Democratic Republic of Congo to increase the use and understanding of marine insurance for transport and trade on Lake Tanganyika. The proposed cooperation would help protect people and property against risks including vessel fires and sinkings, which can cause loss of life, property damage and wider economic harm. Joel Ahaz, the authority’s Lake Tanganyika zonal manager, said it would continue working with countries in the region to extend insurance protection to residents and their assets.
