The Brazilian Superintendence of Private Insurance (SUSEP) took part in a roundtable in São Paulo organised by the Getulio Vargas Foundation’s Insurance and Reinsurance Innovation Institute (FGV-IISR) to discuss the Insurance Risk Letter (Letra de Risco de Seguro, LRS), created by Law No. 14,430 of 2022. SUSEP’s Director of Prudential and Reinsurance Supervision, Carlos Queiroz, opened the event and framed the LRS as a new market instrument and regulatory innovation intended to increase the economic capacity of Brazil’s insurance and reinsurance system. Queiroz also pointed to the recent first LRS issuance as a historic milestone, citing both its pioneering nature and the product structuring designed to provide security for capital markets investors. The roundtable brought together public and private sector specialists, including representatives from the Ministry of Finance, IRB Brasil RE, Itaú Unibanco and private legal counsel, to discuss key features and perspectives for the instrument.
