The Central Bank of Curaçao and Sint Maarten reported on the first 2025 meetings of the National Payment Council (NPC), where members agreed to launch a public awareness campaign to combat payment fraud as new payment methods such as payment links and QR-code payments proliferate. The campaign is intended to warn consumers, highlight risks and explain how to protect themselves. The NPC also reviewed progress on harmonising local payment card fees, noting that earlier work on uniform configuration of point-of-sale terminals and ATMs has resolved many issues following discussions with bankers’ associations in February 2025, but that some incorrect fees and misconfigured devices remain. Instant Payment technology was another focus, with the central bank drafting guidelines to regulate real-time interbank transfer services, including open-banking standards, and exploring the feasibility of international instant payments between Curaçao, Sint Maarten, Bonaire, Aruba and the Netherlands.
