The Hong Kong Monetary Authority has issued a public alert after receiving reports of fraudulent websites and internet banking login screens associated with Chong Hing Bank Limited, and linked to the bank’s own press release on the incident. The HKMA reiterated that banks will not send SMS messages or emails containing embedded hyperlinks directing customers to bank websites to carry out transactions, and will not request sensitive personal information such as login passwords or one-time passwords via phone, email, or SMS. Customers who provided personal information or conducted transactions through the fraudulent sites or screens are advised to contact Chong Hing Bank using the details in the bank’s press release and report the matter to the Police.
