The Rwanda Capital Markets Authority said it engaged Africa Prudential Plc in Nigeria on the use of digital technology to improve shareholder services, investor participation and capital markets record management. The discussion formed part of the authority’s study tour of Nigeria, during which its delegation met regulators, exchanges and other capital market institutions. The main focus was how digital shareholder platforms, virtual annual general meetings, electronic voting and investor information validation could be used in Rwanda to improve communication between listed companies and investors, broaden shareholder participation and strengthen the accuracy of investor records. Africa Prudential, a listed capital market registrar, presented services including automated assistance, virtual shareholder meetings, real-time electronic voting and mobile access to investment portfolios. The engagement also covered measures for tracing investors with unclaimed dividends and other outstanding entitlements, as well as professional training for capital market registrars. The authority said such services could support Rwanda’s efforts to modernize capital market infrastructure and give investors easier access to information, shareholder meetings and investment records.
