The Financial Stability Board (FSB) has appointed Randal K. Quarles to chair a high-level group tasked by the G20 with conducting a strategic review of the FSB’s implementation monitoring work. The review is intended to assess how the FSB monitors implementation of post-global financial crisis regulatory reforms and identify improvements to its tools for promoting consistent global implementation. The group will assess 15 years of reform implementation, evaluate the effectiveness of the FSB’s monitoring tools and processes, and provide recommendations. It was established at the request of the South African G20 Presidency, and will review the FSB’s work in monitoring members’ commitments and progress, including peer reviews and the FSB’s broader role in encouraging global adherence to prudential standards. An interim report is due to the G20 in October and will include a review of the history of reform implementation. A final report is expected in 2026, assessing the FSB’s implementation monitoring tools and processes and setting out any recommendations.
