The Trinidad and Tobago Securities and Exchange Commission participated in the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Regional Meeting on Advancing Cross-Border Payment and Settlement Innovation, focused on developing a modern, technology-enabled framework for cross-border payments and settlement across CARICOM. Represented by Deputy CEO Lystra Lucillio and Sugrim Mungal, Manager of Policy, Research and Planning, the Commission presented on cross-border securities trading and smart-contract settlement, setting out its assessment of the proposed cross-border system and the implications for regional market development. The presentation highlighted regulatory considerations including liquidity management, market access, interoperability, investor protection, market integrity, and systemic risk, alongside broader discussion at the meeting on harmonisation and the development of a secure and efficient regional capital market within the framework of the Revised Treaty of Chaguaramas.
