The Italian Institute for Insurance Supervision has warned that counterfeit surety policies are being circulated in Italy in the name of Chaucer Insurance Company DAC. The Irish insurer has disowned the policies. Although Chaucer Insurance Company DAC is authorised to operate in Italy on a freedom of services basis in several non-life classes, including class 15 surety business, it does not issue surety policies, as also indicated in the Italian register of insurers and insurance groups. IVASS said the counterfeit documents display the PEC address chaucerin@pec.chaucerinsurancecompany.com and the email address info@chaucerinsurancecompany.com, both of which the insurer has disowned, including when accessed through the QR code shown on the fake policies. IVASS noted that it had already warned on 17 April 2025 about counterfeit policies marketed in Italy under the same company name. It urged consumers to verify before paying any premium that quotations and contracts relate to duly authorised insurers and intermediaries, including by checking IVASS lists of authorised firms, the register of intermediaries and the dedicated list for surety business and policy verification methods.
