The Central Bank of Luxembourg released provisional balance-sheet statistics showing the aggregate balance sheet total of credit institutions fell to EUR 968,804 million at 31 August 2025 from EUR 976,349 million at 31 July 2025 (-0.77%). The monthly decline was mainly driven by lower interbank claims on the asset side and lower liabilities to banks and deposit-taking institutions, while the balance sheet total was 2.86% higher year on year. The net interbank position (claims minus liabilities) decreased by EUR 10,990 million (-4.93%) to EUR 211,901 million at end-August 2025. Loans to non-bank customers fell by EUR 1,788 million (-1.53%) over the month but rose by EUR 1,587 million (+1.4%) over 12 months, with year-on-year declines in lending to non-financial corporations (-EUR 1,587 million; -6.20%) offset by increases in household mortgage lending (+EUR 1,207 million; +2.95%) and lending to other financial intermediaries (+EUR 2,839 million; +7.26%). On the liability side, resident non-bank deposits contracted by EUR 12,016 million (-3.85%) between July and August 2025 but increased by EUR 9,757 million (+3.36%) over 12 months, including growth in deposits from other financial intermediaries (+EUR 6,148 million; +3.13%), households (+EUR 1,810 million; +3.87%) and non-financial corporations (+EUR 1,577 million; +6.69%); other financial intermediaries accounted for 67.46% of these deposits at 31 August 2025.

The Central Bank of Luxembourg reported a decline in the aggregate balance sheet total of credit institutions to EUR 968,804 million at the end of August 2025, down 0.77% from July, mainly due to reduced interbank claims and liabilities. Loans to non-bank customers decreased by 1.53% monthly but increased by 1.4% year-on-year, with declines in lending to non-financial corporations offset by rises in household mortgage lending and lending to other financial intermediaries. Resident non-bank deposits fell by 3.85% monthly but grew by 3.36% over the year, with other financial intermediaries holding the majority share.
