The Central Bank of Honduras issued a statement on prosecutorial actions brought by the Public Prosecutor's Office against career officials of the institution. It said it respects the independence of the bodies responsible for investigation and justice, will provide the information and support needed within the legal framework, and will continue carrying out its functions normally as the country's monetary authority and banker to the state. The statement also restated confidence in the rule of law and in the functioning of democratic institutions, highlighting the presumption of innocence, due process, equality of the parties and effective judicial protection. The bank said the ongoing investigations should clarify the facts objectively and that any corresponding decisions should be taken independently, transparently and in accordance with the law.
