The Reserve Bank of India issued 64 consolidated Master Directions covering all instructions administered by its Department of Supervision and repealed 628 circulars with immediate effect. The consolidation is on an “as is” basis, excluding obsolete requirements, and the Master Directions will serve as the sole library of the department’s supervisory instructions. The directions cover up to nine functions across 11 categories of regulated entities, including banks, cooperative banks, non-banking financial companies, asset reconstruction companies and credit information companies. Actions taken or initiated under the repealed instructions will continue to be governed by those provisions. The Reserve Bank incorporated comments aimed at improving clarity and accuracy after receiving 767 stakeholder submissions. Suggestions involving broader reviews or changes fell outside the consolidation exercise and will be examined separately.
