The International Organization of Securities Commissions named South Africa’s Altara and the Securities and Exchange Board of India’s Swipewise as the main winners of its first TechSprint on investor education in the age of artificial intelligence. Powered by the UK Financial Conduct Authority’s AI Lab, the initiative advances IOSCO’s 2026 focus on investor protection and technological transformation by developing tools to help retail investors avoid AI enabled fraud and use AI more safely for financial learning. Altara’s solution creates trusted pathways between investors and financial institutions through verification, contextual education and scam risk intelligence. Swipewise uses game based exercises to teach investors to recognize AI hallucinations, seek explanations, verify claims and calibrate confidence, supported by an architecture that regulators can adapt to local contexts. Both received Pilot Pathway Awards, which recognize prototypes with the clearest route to further regulatory testing, piloting or deployment. IOSCO selected 14 teams from 65 applicants, with participants from 11 jurisdictions presenting their projects in Madrid.
