The Middle East and North Africa Financial Action Task Force (MENAFATF), in cooperation with the World Gold Council (WGC), held a workshop focused on the misuse of the gold sector for money laundering and terrorist financing. Nearly 200 participants attended, including representatives from financial intelligence units, judicial authorities, law enforcement agencies, and supervisory bodies from member countries. The sessions covered key gold-sector misuse risks, best practices to strengthen integrity and transparency, regulatory challenges, the need to reinforce legal and institutional frameworks, and the role of public-private partnerships. The workshop concluded by highlighting the importance of enhanced regional and international cooperation and experience-sharing to protect the gold sector from illicit misuse.
