The South African Reserve Bank released its international reserves and foreign currency liquidity template, reporting the short-term foreign currency assets and liabilities of the South African Reserve Bank and the Central Government of South Africa as at end-June 2025. Official reserve assets were reported at USD 68,415 million. Memorandum items split reserves into USD 64,999 million in currencies in the Special Drawing Rights basket (including gold) and USD 3,416 million in currencies outside the basket. Predetermined net drains within one year include Central Government foreign-currency principal outflows of USD 3,978 million and interest outflows of USD 1,734 million, alongside a net long position of USD 533 million in foreign-exchange forwards and futures and other accounts receivable of USD 40 million. Contingent drains within one year include other contingent liabilities of USD 1,069 million, comprising Central Government principal of USD 655 million and interest of USD 414 million.
