The Bank of Italy and the European Investment Bank are organizing a conference in Rome on 2 July 2026 on finance for innovation and artificial intelligence as drivers of development. The event is framed around two core issues: what is needed to expand the use of artificial intelligence across the productive system, and how to strengthen the role of private capital in financing innovation, with particular attention to insurance companies and pension funds. The program brings together representatives from public institutions, academia, companies and the financial sector. Sessions will examine the artificial intelligence value chain and its effects on the Italian and European productive system, the link between artificial intelligence and business growth, ways to leverage private capital for innovation financing, and the potential and obstacles for insurers, pension funds and retail investors. Introductory remarks by Bank of Italy Governor Fabio Panetta, European Investment Bank Vice-President Gelsomina Vigliotti and Treasury Director General Riccardo Barbieri Hermitte are scheduled to be streamed live on the Bank of Italy's YouTube channel from 10:00 a.m. CEST.
