The Central Bank of Samoa announced a limited issue 100 tālā banknote commemorating Queen Elizabeth II in the year of the centenary of her birth. The note is legal tender in Samoa but is intended for collectors and members of the public rather than general circulation. The front depicts the Queen at different stages of her life, while the reverse recalls her 1977 visit to then Western Samoa with Prince Philip, the first by a reigning British monarch. The design also incorporates Samoan landmarks, nature and maritime heritage. The banknote was developed with Slovenia’s PBN Currency Solutions.
