The Central Bank of Estonia and Estonia’s Ministry of Finance are attending the International Monetary Fund and World Bank annual meetings in Bangkok, where discussions will focus on global economic and financial risks, rebuilding fiscal buffers and maintaining support for Ukraine. The meetings follow earlier international discussions on debt vulnerabilities and financial stability, but add greater emphasis on artificial intelligence, energy costs and worsening trade tensions as potential drivers of growth and risk. The IMF agenda covers price and financial stability, sovereign debt and rising borrowing costs, financial-sector risks and external economic imbalances. Participants will also consider how to keep international trade and finance open and capture the economic benefits of artificial intelligence while limiting its risks. The World Bank discussions will focus on job creation in developing economies, private-sector funding and renewable energy, while Finance Minister Jürgen Ligi will represent the Nordic-Baltic Constituency in the Development Committee and emphasize the effects of Russia’s war on global development and the need for continued support for Ukraine.
