The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) issued an alert highlighting a Bank of East Asia press release on fraudulent websites and internet banking login screens that have been reported to the HKMA. The HKMA reiterated that banks will not send SMS or emails with embedded hyperlinks directing customers to bank websites to carry out transactions, nor request sensitive personal information such as login passwords or one-time passwords by phone, email or SMS. Customers who provided personal information or conducted transactions via the fraudulent sites or login screens were advised to contact the Bank of East Asia using the details in the bank’s press release and report the matter to the Hong Kong Police Force’s Crime Wing Information Centre.
