The Group of Thirty announced that Pablo Hernández de Cos, general manager of the Bank for International Settlements, has joined its membership. The move adds a current senior international central banking official and former European policymaker to the independent body of economic and financial leaders. Hernández de Cos previously served as governor of the Bank of Spain from 2018 to 2024 and as a member of the European Central Bank Governing Council, while also chairing the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision from 2019 to 2024. The Group of Thirty described his background as spanning macroeconomics, fiscal and monetary policy, financial stability, and international banking regulation. It also noted that members participate in a personal capacity rather than on behalf of affiliated institutions.
