The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) issued an alert to the public following a China Construction Bank (Asia) Corporation Limited notice about fraudulent websites and internet banking login screens that have been reported to the HKMA. The HKMA reiterated that banks will not send SMS messages or emails with embedded hyperlinks directing customers to bank websites to carry out transactions, and will not ask for sensitive personal information such as login passwords or one-time passwords by phone, email, or SMS (including via embedded hyperlinks). People who provided personal information or conducted financial transactions via the fraudulent websites or login screens are advised to contact the bank using the contact details in the bank’s press release and report the matter to the Police.
