The Swedish Financial Supervisory Authority has confirmed that SEB, Handelsbanken, Swedbank and Nordea Hypotek remain identified as other systemically important institutions (O-SIIs) in Sweden and must continue to hold an O-SII capital buffer of 1%. The annual identification follows European Banking Authority guidelines and is based on scoring under the EBA’s O-SII methodology. The three Swedish major banks have maintained stable O-SII scores that are well above the threshold for O-SII classification. Nordea Hypotek, a Swedish subsidiary of Finland’s Nordea Bank, received an O-SII score of 375, above the EBA’s recommended automatic-identification threshold of 350. Under the previously notified decisions, the buffer requirement must be met with Common Equity Tier 1 capital and applies at group level for SEB, Handelsbanken and Swedbank, and at institution level for Nordea Hypotek.
