The European Commission reported that the EU and Moldova have opened accession negotiations on the internal market and competitiveness and inclusive growth clusters, covering 17 of the 33 negotiating chapters. The talks will assess Moldova’s alignment with EU rules across areas including financial services, capital movements, competition, company law, taxation, economic and monetary policy, digital transformation and customs. The EU also set benchmarks that Moldova must meet for the chapters to be provisionally closed. Alignment with and implementation of the EU acquis and relevant European standards will be monitored throughout the negotiations. The latest step follows the opening of negotiations on the external relations cluster in July 2026.
