The Swedish Financial Supervisory Authority (FI) has published survey findings indicating that the Swedish financial sector is broadly preparing for the move from two-day to one-day securities settlement. Among respondents, 84% reported readiness for adaptations required by Dec. 7, 2026, and 88% for the final T+1 transition on Oct. 11, 2027. Larger firms have generally reviewed their systems and processes, while some smaller firms appear to be at an earlier stage of preparation. The main operational challenge is sending settlement instructions on the same day that a trade is executed. Banks reported encountering the most difficulties, although they did not view them as barriers to completing the transition. FI also identified uncertainty over testing, as most respondents do not plan to participate in industry-wide tests of interoperability between systems despite the need for faster, more automated processing with less scope for manual corrections. FI recommends that affected firms assess and adapt their systems and processes, plan early, conduct testing, participate in industry initiatives and use the EU T+1 Industry Committee's road map. It plans a follow-up survey of nonrespondents, meetings with firms and further work to identify readiness gaps among smaller market participants and understand the limited appetite for industry-wide testing.
