The Central Bank of the UAE reported strong banking sector performance and reviewed implementation of its Financial Institutions Resilience Package at a meeting convened by Governor Khaled Mohamed Balama with bank chief executives. At the end of August 2026, banking assets were up 12.9% year on year, total bank loans rose 18.8% and deposits increased 13.0%. Asset quality also improved, with the nonperforming loan ratio falling to 2.6% and the net ratio to 1.2%.

The Central Bank of the UAE reported double-digit annual growth in banking assets, loans and deposits at the end of August 2026, alongside an improved nonperforming loan ratio of 2.6%. Its Financial Institutions Resilience Package had supported 155,971 customers through payment deferrals and fee waivers covering AED 15.9 billion in loans. Governor Khaled Mohamed Balama called on banks to advance digital transformation, consumer protection and financial inclusion while maintaining strong governance, risk management and compliance.
