The European Securities and Markets Authority has published its first code package on GitHub to promote the availability of ESMA’s data and facilitate its use. The initial release includes tools that allow users to search and download data from some of ESMA’s public registers. The publication complements ESMA’s recently launched interactive dashboards drawing on Market in Financial Instruments Directive data in those registers, including figures by instrument or trading venue, market type and country. Together, the code packages and dashboards are intended to make highly granular register data easier to visualise, understand and reuse, supporting ESMA’s objective to provide relevant market information in machine-readable form under its Data Strategy 2023–2028, including for retail investors. ESMA plans to publish additional interactive dashboards and further code packages over time.
