The European Investment Bank’s Board of Directors approved EUR 9.2 billion in new financing for European competitiveness, energy infrastructure, public services and projects in partner countries. The package includes EUR 4.3 billion to be channelled through local banks, primarily to small and medium-sized enterprises in the security and defence, space, energy and agriculture sectors across nine EU countries. Other approvals cover electricity networks in Germany and Greece, solar energy in Italy, district heating in Lithuania, a rail link between Croatia and Hungary, and hospitals in France and Poland. Outside the EU, financing will support electricity grids in Brazil, solar energy and battery storage in Egypt, women smallholder farmers in four African countries, and medical equipment in Kosovo.
