Bermuda Premier and Minister of Finance David Burt concluded meetings in Brussels and Paris focused on issues affecting Bermuda’s international business sector and the global regulatory environment. The engagements coincided with the 10th anniversary of Bermuda achieving full equivalence under the European Union’s Solvency II regime. Burt met European government, regulatory and business representatives, including officials from the European Commission, the French Treasury, the National Bank of Belgium and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development. In remarks in Brussels, he reviewed the European Commission’s recognition of Bermuda’s regulatory framework, capital requirements, governance standards and supervisory regime as equivalent to the EU framework.
