The European Securities and Markets Authority has appointed Carlo Comporti as its next Chair, following confirmation by the Council of the European Union. He will take office on Nov. 1, 2026, succeeding the current leadership of Verena Ross after her five years as Chair. Comporti has served as a Commissioner at Italy’s securities regulator CONSOB since February 2022 and is a member of ESMA’s Board of Supervisors and Management Board. He also chairs ESMA’s Digital Finance Standing Committee and previously served as secretary-general of the Committee of European Securities Regulators, where he helped oversee its transition to ESMA in 2010 and 2011.
