The Hong Kong Monetary Authority published a public alert flagging bank-issued warnings about scams involving fraudulent websites, fake internet banking login screens, phishing emails and related fraud reported to the HKMA. The alert links to press releases from The Bank of East Asia, Shanghai Commercial Bank, Chong Hing Bank, OCBC Bank (Hong Kong) and Bank of China (Hong Kong). The HKMA reminded the public that banks will not send SMS or emails with embedded hyperlinks directing customers to bank websites to carry out transactions, and will not request sensitive information such as login passwords or One-Time Passwords by phone, email or SMS. Anyone who has provided personal information or conducted transactions in response to these scams should contact the relevant bank using details in the corresponding bank press release and report the matter to the Hong Kong Police Force.
