The Tanzania Insurance Regulatory Authority (TIRA) held talks with the Foundation for Disability Hope (FDH) on steps to make insurance more accessible to people with disabilities, including how insurance information can better reach people with visual and hearing impairments. Insurance Commissioner Dr Baghayo Saqware committed TIRA to work with FDH to help remove barriers to insurance services for people with special needs. FDH Director Michael Salali welcomed TIRA’s inclusion efforts for people with physical, visual and hearing impairments and called for continued collaboration to build the capacity of insurance service providers to include these groups in product packages and communications to raise insurance awareness. FDH adviser Dr Pius Horompende linked the agenda to Tanzania’s National Development Vision 2050, highlighting the need for disability-friendly infrastructure in buildings and improved access to health services, including insurance packages addressing mental health challenges.
