Hong Kong Interbank Clearing Limited has warned the public about two fraudulent websites, companyrefund[.]club and fpshkpay[.]xyz, that falsely claim to be affiliated with HKICL and mimic a "Buyer Online Protection" service for Faster Payment System transactions. The sites purport to offer buyer refunds, unauthorised online transaction reporting and transaction support for online payments made over FPS. According to HKICL, the websites are designed to obtain personal document numbers, identity document photos and phone numbers under the guise of real-name verification for a cash reward. They also seek bank names, account numbers and account holder names to facilitate top-ups and withdrawals through a virtual wallet via FPS, and direct users to fraudsters posing as customer service staff. HKICL said the sites have no connection to it, noted that it does not normally provide FPS services directly to individual members of the public or proactively contact them, and identified its genuine websites as hkicl.com.hk and fps.hkicl.com.hk. The operator urged the public to remain alert to suspicious calls, websites and other communications, to verify suspicious messages that purport to come from HKICL through its general line, and to report suspected fraud to the police promptly.
