The Tanzania Insurance Regulatory Authority participated in a BAKWATA conference in Dar es Salaam on 12 February 2025 to provide public education on insurance and encourage Tanzanians to protect health and property through insurance, with particular emphasis on health insurance as the 2023 universal health insurance law begins implementation. Representing the Insurance Commissioner, TIRA’s Communications and Public Relations Manager urged attendees to take out health insurance with insurers and schemes registered by TIRA, stating that low-cost upfront contributions can help families access treatment without financial barriers when illness occurs. BAKWATA’s Deputy Chief Kadhi, Sheikh Ally Ngeruko, said the insurance sector had provided 1,093 health insurance policies to Tanzanians in need as part of the Insurance Commissioner’s pledge to distribute 10,000 policies through the Mufti, with delivery being rolled out in phases. Assemble Insurance also attended to provide insurance services, education and health screening. The phased distribution is continuing with the stated goal of reaching 10,000 health insurance policies.
