The Central Bank of the Republic of Kosovo said Governor Ahmet Ismaili hosted a technical assistance mission under a new project of the U.S. Treasury Department’s Office of Technical Assistance focused on strengthening the central bank’s institutional capacity and supervisory expertise in anti-money laundering and countering the financing of terrorism. During the visit, Ismaili signed the Terms of Reference for a new project that will be implemented with the Ministry of Finance, the Financial Intelligence Unit and the Office of the Chief State Prosecutor to reinforce Kosovo’s financial integrity framework through advisory support on AML, CFT and counter-proliferation financing. The central bank said the project is intended to improve interinstitutional coordination, strengthen compliance with international standards and increase the effectiveness of Kosovo’s framework for preventing and addressing financial crime risks. In the discussions, Ismaili outlined progress in the regulatory and supervisory framework, including ongoing risk-based supervision, work on crypto-asset regulations and licensing of crypto-asset service providers, stronger investment screening for new institutions entering the Kosovo market, and further improvements in supervision and fit-and-proper procedures.

The Central Bank of the Republic of Kosovo said its governor hosted a U.S. Treasury technical assistance mission focused on strengthening AML/CFT supervisory capacity. He signed Terms of Reference for a new interagency AML/CFT/CPF project designed to improve coordination, align with international standards and strengthen Kosovo’s financial integrity framework. The discussions also referenced ongoing work on risk-based supervision, crypto-asset rules and licensing, investment screening and fit-and-proper procedures.
