The Taiwan Financial Services Commission published updated SME lending data showing domestic banks' outstanding loans to small and medium-sized enterprises reached NT$11,178.1 billion at the end of May 2026, up NT$67.0 billion from the end of April 2026. Although the stock of SME lending increased, its share of broader bank lending to businesses declined over the month. By the end of May 2026, SME loans accounted for 62.94% of total loans to all enterprises and 66.38% of total loans to private enterprises, down 0.55 percentage points and 0.69 percentage points respectively from the end of April 2026. The average non-performing loan ratio for SME lending was 0.20% in May, unchanged from the end of April. The commission also said it will continue encouraging domestic banks to promote SME lending with risk control and management in place.
