The National Bank of the Republic of North Macedonia published payment statistics for the second quarter of 2025 showing further year-on-year growth in electronic payments, with consumers increasingly choosing mobile applications and payment cards over counter-based payments. Compared with the same quarter in 2024, electronic payments executed via payment orders increased by 9% in number and by 20.9% in value. Growth was strongest for electronically initiated payments through digital channels, where transactions rose by 18.6% and value by 28.3%; 71.3% of these digital-channel transactions were executed via mobile applications. Card payments also expanded, up 8.4% by number and 11.4% by value, driven mainly by higher online purchases (14.8%), alongside growth in in-store card payments (7.9%).
