The Central Bank of the UAE reported that gross banking assets rose 1.1% during May 2026 to AED 5,633.1 billion, while gross credit increased 0.5% to AED 2,733.1 billion. Domestic credit grew by AED 13.8 billion, offsetting a negative contribution from foreign credit, which stood at AED 562.5 billion. Bank deposits totaled AED 3,463.4 billion, with nonresident deposits rising 3.6% to AED 318.6 billion. Private-sector lending was the main driver of domestic credit growth, with credit to corporations and individuals each increasing by AED 4.6 billion. Lending to government-related entities rose AED 3.5 billion, or 1%. At the end of May, M1 stood at AED 1,053.5 billion, M2 at AED 2,853.9 billion and M3 at AED 3,393.4 billion. The monetary base reached AED 848.5 billion as banks’ reserve balances with the central bank jumped 49.4% to AED 295.4 billion.
