National Bank of Moldova Governor Anca Dragu spoke at a Bucharest roundtable on “Recovery and resilience at local level”, outlining how financial inclusion, modern payment infrastructure and alignment with European standards can support local economic development. She pointed to Moldova’s integration into the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA), the rollout of the MIA instant payments system and the development of a National Financial Inclusion Strategy as practical tools to help households, small and medium-sized enterprises and local public authorities. Dragu added that MIA is already used by around half of Moldova’s adult population, including in rural areas, and that SEPA integration is expected to reduce transfer costs, support businesses and facilitate diaspora remittances with direct effects on local economies.
