The Central Bank of Bosnia and Herzegovina confirmed that the adoption of harmonized financial laws by the legislatures of both entities has met all regulatory requirements for the country to submit its official application to join the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA). Accession would allow cross-border euro payments under the same conditions as domestic payments, reducing transaction costs and processing times for households, businesses and banks. The central bank will submit the official application to the European Commission and the European Payments Council, following its draft application in December 2025. It is also coordinating technical preparations across banks and payment infrastructure so SEPA payments can begin without delay after accession. More than 80% of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s foreign trade is with SEPA countries, which are also home to most of its diaspora, whose remittances total almost BAM 3 billion annually.
