The Financial Services Institute’s board, chaired by Egypt Financial Regulatory Authority Chair Islam Azzam, has reorganized the Regional Center for Sustainable Finance and Carbon Markets as the institute’s technical, research and training hub for sustainable finance. Its expanded mandate covers capacity building, research, technical and advisory services, professional certification programs, databases and performance indicators to support sustainable finance, climate finance and carbon markets. The center will train carbon market specialists and project developers, support emissions reporting and climate disclosure, and develop guidance on monitoring, reporting and verification. It will also establish a sustainable finance observatory and promote innovation in sustainable finance instruments. These functions do not extend to the regulatory, supervisory or legislative responsibilities of the authority or its sustainable development department. The revised governance framework establishes an advisory council of subject matter experts appointed for renewable three-year terms. An executive director will oversee annual plans, training and technical programs, staffing and funding proposals, periodic reports, cooperation agreements and the implementation of approved advisory council recommendations.
