National Bank of Moldova Governor Anca Dragu met European Bank for Reconstruction and Development representatives to review current cooperation and priorities for the next period. A central issue was the bank’s effort to obtain European Banking Authority recognition that Moldova’s prudential banking framework is equivalent to the European Union framework, continuing its alignment of financial regulation and supervision with EU requirements. The National Bank described Moldova’s banking sector as resilient, well capitalized and supported by solid liquidity and a favorable risk profile. The discussions also covered EBRD support for financial sector modernization and Moldova’s European integration. The EBRD currently has 76 active projects in Moldova worth about EUR 1.33 billion, following cumulative investment of more than EUR 3 billion across 199 projects.
