The National Bank of Romania announced it will rehabilitate the building housing its Brașov Agency and will initiate a competitive procurement for urgent works to make the property safe, including repairs to the main façade, party walls and roof. The agency operates in one of the Czell Palaces, a historic monument owned by the central bank, and under Law 422/2001 BNR is required to maintain, strengthen and restore the building. The Ministry of Culture issued written agreement no. 207/15.12.2025 authorising the start of rehabilitation works. The move follows a 10 January incident in which pieces of plaster fell in a heavily trafficked area, leading Brașov Local Police to fine BNR and require immediate removal of the hazard. The contract is estimated at RON 9,000,000 excluding VAT and covers both construction works and related services, including design, technical assistance and project management. Once awarded, the rehabilitation works are expected to take around seven months.
