The Bank of Finland has announced two Europe Forum sessions in Turku on Aug. 27, 2026, covering the digital euro and the role of human capital in European economic growth. The first will examine the digital euro as a public European payment option amid declining cash use, growing reliance on electronic payments and the concentration of payment services among non-European commercial operators. The digital euro discussion will address the Eurosystem’s preparations for the possible issuance of central bank money in digital form during 2029, intended to complement cash and private-sector payment solutions. A separate session will consider slowing labor productivity growth, the risk of declining human capital and how Europe can translate skills and knowledge into sustainable growth and innovation.
