The Financial Services Regulatory Authority of Ontario (FSRA) reminded individuals using the Financial Planner title, or similar, to ensure they meet Ontario’s title protection framework by holding an approved credential from a FSRA-approved credentialing body, as the transition period ends on 28 March 2026. From 28 March 2026, individuals without an approved credential will no longer be permitted to use the Financial Planner title in Ontario, and continued use may lead to enforcement action under the Financial Professionals Title Protection Act, 2019. The transition period applies only to people who were using the Financial Planner title on or before 1 January 2020; FSRA encouraged current title users to confirm whether their credential is approved and, if not, take steps to obtain an approved credential before the deadline.
