The Tanzania Insurance Regulatory Authority published an update on its briefing to Parliament’s Public Investments Committee, reporting that insurance claims payments increased by 57% in 2025 compared with 2023 amid continued market growth. The committee welcomed improvements in insurance access and service efficiency but directed the authority to strengthen enforcement of insurance laws and guidelines to ensure all insurers maintain sufficient capital and pay claims promptly following disasters. The authority attributed market growth partly to increased public awareness and an enabling legal and regulatory environment, supported by 10 zonal offices serving all regions. It also reported upgrades to TIRAMIS, TIRA-ORS, the TSS Portal and IRIS, which have streamlined licensing and fee payments while improving transparency and service delivery. The committee called for continued insurance education through innovative channels to reach more Tanzanians.
